Alpiste Sunshine Bars

Steps

  • Position rack in bottom one third of oven.

  • Preheat oven to 350° F (180° C).

  • Spray a 13 x 9 x 2 inch (33 x 23 x 5 cm) glass baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

  • In a large bowl, combine oatmeal, alpiste, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, cherries and ground almonds.

  • Melt butter in microwave or low heat on stove. Add brown sugar and canola oil.

  • Add butter mixture to dry mixture, stirring thoroughly.

  • Pat mixture into prepared pan.

  • Bake 45 minutes.

  • Cool 30 minutes then cut into 2 inch (5 cm) squares.

  • Let cool completely before removing from pan.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (1 L) oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) alpiste

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) pumpkin seeds

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) dried cherries

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) ground almonds

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter

  • 1 cup (250 mL) brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) canola
