Alpiste Brownies

15 Minutes Prep + 25 Minutes Baking + 30 Minutes Cooling

Steps

  • Position rack in centre of oven.

  • Preheat oven to 350° F (180° C).

  • In a bowl, combine, alpiste flour, corn flour, bean flour, cocoa powder and baking powder.

  • In another bowl, mix egg, butter and vanilla. Mix well.

  • Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients. Fold in nuts.

  • Pour batter into a 9 x 9 inch (23 x 23 cm) pan.

  • Bake 25 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

  • Cool 5 minutes.

  • Prepare icing by whipping all ingredients together.

  • Ice brownies while still warm.

  • Cut into 36 squares.

Ingredients

BROWNIES

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) alpiste flour

  • 2 Tbsp (25 mL) fine ground corn flour

  • 2 Tbsp (25 mL) Mung bean flour

  • 3 Tbsp (50 mL) cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) baking powder (avoid products containing wheat starch)

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 cup ( 125 mL) butter, melted

  • 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped walnuts

ICING

  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) soft butter

  • 1 cup (250 mL) icing sugar

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp (20 mL) cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) 1% milk
